Liu Sifen is native to Shaxi Town of Zhongshan City. In January, 1944, he was born in a family with literary background. His father Liu Yisheng was a famous journalist, poet and literary critic. Graduated from Chinese Department of Sun Yat-sen University in 1967, he has taken office as the administrative leader in publicity and cultural department of Guangdong Province, including Vice Director-general of Publicity Department of Guangdong, Chairman of Guangdong Writers Association, Member of the standing committee of Guangdong CPPCC, Member of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Member of Chinese Writers Association, Visiting Professor of Sun Yat-sen University and South China Normal University, and Vice Chairman of Guangdong Chinese Poetry Society.
Liu Sifen is an excellent theorist in literature and art. The Zhaoyang cultural theory advanced by him promotes the development of culture in Guangdong. He is also a versatile artist, having great accomplishments in writing novels, academic research, arts and calligraphy, etc. His long historical novel entitled Bai Menliu won the fourth Mao Dun Literature Award, the highest literary award of saga novel in China. Up till now, he has been the only writer in Guangdong Province who has won such distinguished award.
In recent years, he has been mainly interested in painting. A lot of his figure paintings have been exhibited in his hometown Zhongshan and other cities in Guangdong, which are praised as new literati paintings.
