The Zhongshan Federation for Returned Overseas Chinese on
December 15 organized over 60 award winners of the 2019 Overseas Chinese
(Zhongshan) Essay Competition to take part in the "Sun Yat-sen and Macao"
Culture and Study Exchange activity in Macao.
The participants
visited the Lotus Square and the Handover Gifts Museum of Macao among other
places to appreciate Macao's deep historical and cultural heritage, experience
the cultural exchanges between China and the West, and express their joy for the
20th Anniversary of Macao's Return.
It was the first time for
Liang Huiyu from Duifu Primary School of Huangpu Town, the special prize winner
of the student competition, to both participate in this study exchange and visit
Macao. She felt it was very meaningful to experience the local customs of Macao
on the occasion of Macao's 20th anniversary. "This city is rich in exotic
customs and people here are civilized and polite. What I saw and heard during
this study exchange has broadened my horizon. I could also accumulate rich
materials for future writing."
Ms Siu Wai Yin, vice president of
SJKC Kong Min Pusat in Malaysia, whose ancestral home is Longdu, Zhongshan, was
deeply touched during the visit. "Although I am far away from my hometown, I
still speak some Cantonese and actively organize students to participate in this
annual essay competition. This year, I brought six students to Macao to attend
the study exchange. I truly feel the extensive and deep Chinese culture, and
understand the connotation of 'culture of the same roots'."
