Sun Suihua, Sun Yat-sen's granddaughter and Sun Ke's second daughter, died at the age of 96 in California on April 16 American time.
Sun Suihua was born in Shanghai in 1925, went to the United States in 1943, and graduated from Smith College. Later, she married Zhang Jiagong, a master of mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States and a Yunnan-based scholar. Together, they had one son and two daughters.
Sun Suihua and her sister Sun Suiying, adhering to Dr Sun Yat-sen's spirit of "fraternity" and patriotism, paid attention to the development of their hometown even while living abroad. The two sisters had returned to Cuiheng Village, Nanlang Town many times to visit relatives and worship ancestors. They also had donated more than 1,000 pieces of cultural relics and materials to the Museum of Dr Sun Yat-sen and Zhongshan Museum.
In addition, the Sun's sisters were awarded the "Honorary Citizen of Zhongshan City" titles by the Zhongshan People's Government in 2016, and part of the 10th series of "Outstanding Individuals Contributing to Cultural Heritage Protection" by the China Foundation for Cultural Heritage Conservation in 2018.
