In the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the Chinese equestrian team is competing in the Eventing and Jumping competitions. This is not only the first time that the Chinese equestrian team competes in the Eventing competition of Olympic Games, but also the first time that Chinese equestrian team is expected to strive for Olympic medals in four events (Eventing Team, Eventing Individual, Jumping Team, and Jumping Individual).
Liang Ruiji, a Zhongshan native, is participating in the Olympic Games for the first time. From July 30 to August 2, he will compete for team and individual medals against 65 teams from all over the world.
Liang will compete in Jumping and Eventing. He is a renowned equestrian in China and has won the highest level of national competitions in both events.
Liang was born in Dongsheng, Xiaolan Town. He was admitted to Zhongshan Amateur Sports School (now Zhongshan Sports School) together with his sister, specializing in track and field. When the Guangdong Province equestrian team came to the school to select new candidates, Liang won the coach's favor. Thanks to his excellent roundedness and general aptitude, Liang quickly adapted to equestrian training.
