"To people outside, Su Bingtian is a renowned sprinter. To Guyi villagers, he is our kind and warm 'Lil Tian'," said Su Chijie, secretary of the Guyi Village Party Committee. On October 13, the villagers welcomed back their "family member" Su Bingtian in a unique way.
"Welcome Back!". Around 9:30 am, a white commercial vehicle stopped in front of the village committee building. Su Bingtian, dressed in red, opened the door and stepped out. The villagers clapped and cheered, when the students of Guyi Primary School waved red flags in hands.
In the conference room, the villagers expressed congratulations to Su Bingtian for his outstanding achievements in the Olympic Games and the National Games. "Welcome to visit us often." Su Chijie said.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Guyi Village cancelled all activities celebrating the Double Ninth Festival this year. After learning of this, Su Bingtian decided to send cash gifts to all retired villagers over 55 years old. A total of 1,651 villagers received the gifts.
"I couldn't make these achievements without the support from my hometown," said Su Bingtian excitedly. "I'm 32 this year, but I'll keep running for as long as I can. Fighting is in the spirit of Guzhen people, Zhongshan people, and Guangdong people!"
