Leigh-Wai Doo is a renowned public figure in the Chinese community in Hawaii. As a grandson of Sen Yat Young (Yang Xianyi), father of the Chinese revolutionary air force, Leigh-Wai is active in promoting friendship and exchange between Zhongshan and Hawaii. Leigh-Wai has many other titles, including the founding chairman of the Sun Yat-sen Foundation in Hawaii, councilman of Honolulu, etc. He also made great effort to establish the sister city relationship between Honolulu and Zhongshan and assisted in establishing the Law School of the University of Hawaii.
On the morning of September 20, at the commemorative event held in Beitai Elementary School, Leigh-Wai Doo, along with guests and representatives from both teachers and students, paid tribute to Sen Yet Young's achievements through various means such as retrospecting Yang's life story, and delivering speeches. Subsequently, an unveiling ceremony for a model named "Rosamonde" was held at Beitai Memorial Square where guests including Leigh-Wai Doo jointly unveiled it.Later that morning, Leigh-Wai Doo attended the "100th Anniversary Commemoration Event for Sen Yet Young's Sacrifice" held at Zimaling Park together with a descendant of Dr.Sun Yat-sen.
