Guangdong is one of the most important birth places of Chinese cartoon, and Zhongshan is known as the "hometown of cartoon", which has nurtured many excellent cartoonists. They use cartoons to depict life and express emotions. Countless works are widely spread to enrich people's mental and cultural life.
In 1991, famous cartoonist Fang Cheng donated the first batch of works to his hometown. Since then, cartoonists from Zhongshan send their works back to their hometown one after another.

The Zhongshan Cartoon Museum (中山漫画馆) is located beside the Yixian Lake (逸仙湖). It was formerly the Xianhu Restaurant with yellow walls and red tiles, but after renovation, it now has white walls and black tiles. On January 16, 2013, the Zhongshan Cartoon Museum, embraced by green trees and surrounded by blue water, opened to the public.

It has a high quality collection, including nearly 1,000 pieces of works by renowned cartoonists such as Fang Cheng, Fang Tang, Han Yu and Tian Yuan, and physical materials such as cartoon drafts, original manuscripts of texts, calligraphy works and letters.
The museum also uses advanced display tools, such as 360-degree holographic projection and multimedia, to visualize and make the art of cartoon more interesting.
