Prof Guang-Zhong Yang, Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) and chief scientist of the Institute of Medical Robotics at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, returned to his hometown Xiaolan to visit relatives and attended an exchange panel at the Xiaolan town government on August 10.
Prof Yang first visited the Qianchun Science Education and Art Center in Yongning Community. The center is a public welfare project established by Prof Yang and his sister and brother to commemorate their parents. It consists of the Qianchun Bookhouse, the Yang's Former Residence and a master studio.
The Yang's Former Residence was the place where Prof Yang Canqian, Prof Guang-Zhong Yang's father, lived during his childhood. The house that retains the original structure and layout presents Prof Yang Canqian's story as a scientist dedicated to research and serving the country.
"I hope the Center can make contribution to the development of community culture and public welfare, enhance the sense of belonging of more fellow countrymen and the next generations and encourage them to participate in the construction and development of their hometown," said Prof Yang.
During the exchange panel, heads of Xiaolan People's Hospital of Zhongshan and Zhongshan Chen Xinghai Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, introduced the development of the hospitals and engaged in discussions with Prof Yang in medical robots and medical imaging technology.
"I am willing to introduce high-quality resources for my hometown and contribute to the development of Xiaolan," said Prof Yang.
