Zhongshan leads Guangdong in air quality improvement during January to November of 2018
2019-01-07
According to a report recently released by the Guangdong Department of Ecology and Environment, Zhongshan has seen the largest air quality improvement within Guangdong Province in the first eleven months of 2018.

Statistics show that last year’s Zhongshan air quality was rated “excellent” for 155 days and “good” for 157 days. The overall standard rate reached 85.5%, up 7.4% compared with the rate for 2017.

Last year, six of the major air pollution monitoring indexes dropped to various extents year-on-year. PM10, PM2.5 and NO2 dropped 8.2%, 9.1%, and 11.1% respectively to 45, 30, and 32 micrograms per cubic meter (on average). The city’s Comprehensive Index of Atmospheric Environment measurement was 3.76, down 9.6% from its 2017 figure.

Four times in 2018, Zhongshan was listed in the “Monthly Top 10 in Air Quality” among 74 key cities.

So far, Zhongshan has activated 100 air quality micro monitoring stations. These stations provide real-time air monitoring, air quality early warnings, and precise enforcement of air quality regulations. The city has plans to build another 200 similar stations in the first half of the year to achieve full coverage for complete grid-shaped air monitoring.
