This year, the Zhongshan police force has been focused on cracking down two kinds of robbery cases, violence theft and snatch-and-grab, which often lead to personal injury and property loss.
On the afternoon of April 24, the Zhongshan Public Security Bureau held a media notification conference on devoted efforts in the fight against these two kinds of robbery. Data reveals that the first quarter of the year saw 101 cases of both forms of robbery. This represents a year-to-year decrease in the case occurrence rate of 75.06%, and a year-to-year increase in case detections of 10.9%.
All cases spread across nine towns and districts including Shaxi, West District, Sanxiang, Huangpu, Gangkou, Dongfeng, Shiqi District, and Banfu were solved. No cases occurred in Torch Zone, Nanlang Town, South District, Shenwan Town, nor Wuguishan District.
The fight against these two forms of crime began with the start of the force's summer actions. These two types of crime were reported on between March 25 and April 21 representing a drop of 82.3%.
According to the data analyzed by the Command Center at the Zhongshan Public Security Bureau on the characteristics of these crimes, the chances of female victims dropped from a majority to half of the cases. Robbery cases typically took place between 19:00 and 23:00, and between 0:00 and 3:00.
In addition to crime prevention efforts against these crimes, the police have also made an appeal to citizens to improve their self-awareness and to learn how to protect themselves by taking precautions against these crimes.
