The giant mosaic fresco, dubbed the "Xiangshan Constellation", with Tang Hui, a Professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts as its lead designer, was completed a few days ago.

It took three years to complete the "Xiangshan Constellation", which is 42.6 meters long and 4.4 meters wide, totaling 187.44 square meters. It extends from the underground to the 7th floor of the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Library.

The "Xiangshan Constellation" is composed of a giant sculpture of Sun Yat-sen and the fresco. Based on the appearance of middle-aged Sun Yat-sen, the sculpture portrays his well-read and studious image.

Behind the sculpture, a giant rectangle atrium fresco shows 26 wise men from Xiangshan, such as Lu Haodong, Zheng Guanying, Yang Yin, Wang Yunwu, Lyu Wencheng, Fang Rending, Xiao Youmei, Fang Cheng and Gu Yuan, with "hometown", "nation", and "world" as the main narrative lines.

The fresco was completed by more than 60 experienced and skilled masters after 3 months of hard work with more than 2 million mosaic tiles.

"Mosaic tile, as an 'eternal material', is strongly anti-corrosive and antioxidant. It can maintain its original color and shape for a long time even in the sunbaked and humid environment of southern China," said Tang Hui.
