Chen Peichen Woodcarving Research Center inaugurated

Nearly 60 pieces of classic Chaozhou wood carving works were displayed on October 24 at Master of Chinese Arts and Crafts Chen Peichen's Woodcarving Research Center, which is formally established in Double Eagle residential community in Torch Development Zone.

The research center will carry out in-depth exchanges with the Zhongshan woodcarving art industry to promote the development of the Zhongshan rosewood industry.

Chen Peichen is the second-generation successor of a Chaozhou wood carving family. After decades of practice and exploration, he established himself as a master of the Chaozhou woodcarving "Shrimp and Crab Basket" style, passed down for more than one hundred years.

In 2006, Chen Peichen was awarded the title of Master of Chinese Arts and Crafts; in 2007, he became the representative successor of Chaozhou woodcarving, a national intangible cultural heritage; and in 2012, he was appointed as evaluation expert for the 6th Master of Chinese Arts and Crafts.

In 2014, Master Chen Peichen's Studio was established in Zhongshan Polytechnic, where he and his disciples set up courses and teach lessons. His grandson, Chen Xiang, was also enrolled in furniture art design major of Zhongshan Polytechnic and has become a practical teacher after graduation.
