A song called "Kind People are Just Nearby" performed by Zhongshan Youth Philharmonic Orchestra kicked off the 2019 Zhongshan Moral Models and Good People Around You Exchange Meeting on the afternoon of January 9 at the Small Theater of Zhongshan Culture & Art Center. A group of moral models and "good people around you" were commended.

At the event, the conferring ceremony was held to commend "Zhongshan Good People" that are characterized by professional dedication, honesty and trustworthiness, helpfulness towards others, filial piety, and courageous acts. Chen Yanlian, who led villagers to take off the "Poverty Hat", and Lin Yizhong, who insisted on providing 5 yuan haircut services for 26 years, received their "China Good People" honorary certificates. Then they presented awards to 7 "Guangdong Good People" and 69 "Zhongshan Good People".

According to reports, Zhongshan has selected 494 "Good People Around You" since July 2010 when it launched the "I Recommend and I Comment on Good People" campaign, of which 41 have been awarded "China Good People" and 45 make the "Guangdong Good People" list.
