The table tennis and badminton competitions of the Zhongshan Games for People with Disabilities recently started in the Zhongshan Jianyu Badminton Court and Zhongshan Table Tennis Hall respectively. The competitions lasted for 2 days, and more than 120 athletes across Zhongshan participated in the events.
Heng, the dual champion of table tennis and badminton in the women's upper limb disability group, has a disabled left hand. "Perhaps because I started training since childhood, I feel that I am no different from a healthy person in life and sports," she said.
Guang from Shiqi District has to rely on a wheelchair to travel because of his lower limb disability caused by polio. In his spare time, he likes to take part in wheelchair marathon races, wheelchair badminton games, and so on in nearby cities and townships. Guang said that he hoped that the community would hold more activities to encourage more disabled people to go out for exercise and enjoy the happiness brought by sports.
Over the years, Zhongshan has placed special importance to the development of resources for the disabled. This year, Zhongshan plans to set up quality sports fitness sites for the disabled in each township, and has trained 3 to 6 sports social instructors for the disabled to guide disabled sports and fitness in towns and districts.
