The central civilization office on November 10 announced the list of selected cities for the 6th National Civilized Cities and the list of the National Civilized Cities from past 5 selections that had been reviewed and confirmed to retain the honorary title. Zhongshan won the title of "National Civilized City" for the sixth time.
Zhongshan was recognized by Guangdong as a pioneer for the establishment of a national civilized city as early as 1995. In 2005, Zhongshan was rated as one of the first national civilized cities (one of only 9 cities in China) and won this "golden plaque" 5 times in a row.
Zhongshan has carried out 9 special responses for the needs of citizens this year. For example, 4 parking lots with 787 new parking spaces were built to solve urban parking problems. More than 2 million yuan has been invested in the downtown area to build more than 8,000 parking spaces for cars and 25,000 for electric motorcycles.
Since June 23 this year, more than 760,000 citizens have participated in volunteer services to create a civilized and sanitary city. Some work units have also set up a "Weekend Volunteer Day". More than 1.7 million community service hours have been provided in Zhongshan.
