The 2020 report of China's comprehensive building of a well-off society was recently published in Beijing, along with the "2020 Top 100 Prefecture-level Cities in Well-off Society Index (including Sub-provincial Cities)" and the "2020 Top 100 County-level Cities in Well-off Society Index". Zhongshan ranked 20th among prefecture-level cities nationwide in well-off society index.

The monitored subjects of the report were all prefecture-level cities (including sub-provincial cities) and county-level cities in China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan regions). Systematic monitoring was carried out in five areas of these cities, namely economic development, people's livelihood, cultural development, environmental conditions, and urban governance. Afterwards, five sub-indexes were formed and integrated into the finial "well-off society index".

The report pointed out that the average index of top 100 prefecture-level cities reached 119.47. The well-off society index of Zhongshan was 132.88, with A+ grades in all 5 sub-indexes.
