As a famous hometown of overseas Chinese, Zhongshan is called home by more than 1 million overseas Chinese and compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, who live in more than 90 countries and regions including the United States, Canada, Australia and Malaysia.
Since the reform and opening up period, overseas Chinese and compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan have been an indispensable force for Zhongshan's economic and social development. They have made donations of over 2 billion yuan to build schools, hospitals, roads and bridges in Zhongshan. They have also played a crucial role in the Zhongshan Charity Parade.
They have donated nearly 2 million articles of epidemic prevention materials and nearly 10 million yuan to help Zhongshan combat the COVID-19 epidemic.
This year, the 34th Zhongshan Charity Parade was held as scheduled. Due to epidemic prevention and control measures, overseas Chinese and fellow villagers in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan could not return to Zhongshan for the event. However, they still love their hometown no matter where they are, and their enthusiasm and support for the Zhongshan Charity Parade and charitable causes are undiminished.
In order to allow more compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan as well as other overseas Chinese to participate in the Zhongshan Charity Parade, a "Zhongshan Charity Parade online" Wechat applet was developed. With Xingzhong Avenue as the background, it simulates the parade routes and is interactive, interesting, and easy to use.
Zhongshan overseas Chinese in Fiji, Colombia and other places said that they would pay close attention to the parade and participate in the event in any special way they could.
