The China National Narcotics Control Committee on April 30 held a video conference on national drug control and announced the first 41 "National Model Cities for Drug Control". Guangdong Province's Zhongshan and Foshan cities made the list.

Zhongshan, in conjunction with the College of Urban and Environmental Sciences of Peking University, set up the first school-administered drug environmental forensic laboratory to carry out the first sewage drug testing pilot project in China. The results of their research have been reported in Nature, a world's leading academic journal.
