A group of jellyfish were found in the waters near the Kaiyin New Town residential community in Zhongshan on the afternoon of September 14. The staff of the Zhongshan Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs immediately went to the reported site.
The reported freshwater jellyfish was Craspedacusta, also called "panda in the water".
Craspedacusta usually lives in pollution-free rivers and lakes and have high water quality requirements. The discovery of Craspedacusta in Zhongshan reflects the city's excellent water quality and environment, said a staff member from the Zhongshan Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
Craspedacusta is a kind of primitive, lower invertebrate that was first born about 550 million years ago. It is listed as an endangered species in China.
