Xiao Zhanxin, mayor of Zhongshan, and Diana Caiza, mayor of Ambato, Tungurahua, Ecuador, met at an online meeting on October 30. The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding on friendly cooperation, aiming to deepen exchanges and cooperation in economy and trade, culture, tourism, education, sci-tech and other areas, promote common development, and achieve win-win cooperation.

Currently, Zhongshan has established sister-city relations with 5 foreign cities and signed MOUs on friendly cooperation with 17 foreign cities. The Zhongshan People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries has established ties with 17 foreign friendly organizations and institutions. Zhongshan has also established friendly exchange mechanisms with counterpart agencies of over 20 countries and regions worldwide in education, sports, culture, health care, economy and trade, tourism, talent, sci-tech, municipal construction, among other areas. Zhongshan's Sanxiang, Xiaolan and Nanlang have established friendly cooperation relations with foreign cities.
