Accompanied by Xue Xiaofeng, Chen Zhu visited the achievement exhibition of Zhongshang Municipal Red Cross on Feb. 22.

The 1st Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau Red Cross and Humanitarian Work Meeting was held yesterday morning in Zhongshan. The invited guests gathered together and discussed work of the Red Cross. Participants include Chen Zhu, Chairman of China Red Cross and Deputy Chairman of National People’s Congress, He Zhongyou, Deputy Governor of Guangdong Province, Xue Xiaofeng, Secretary of Zhongshan Municipal Party Committee, and Chen Wenchang, Party Secretary of Guangdong Provincial Red Cross. Some representatives from other places such as Beijing, Zhejiang, and An’hui also attended the meeting.

Chen Zhu expressed on behalf of China Red Cross congratulations on the opening of the meeting and thanks for Guangdong province and Zhongshan city for the contribution to national Red Cross work. He pointed out that the 29-year Zhongshan Charity Parade which adheres to Mr. Sun Yat-sen’s idea of “All under heaven are equal” and upholds the flag of charity has become a spiritual civilization brand of Zhongshan City, and has made remarkable contribution to national humanitarian work.

Xue Xiaofeng expressed in his speech that “charity” has rooted deeply in the hearts of Zhongshan citizens and has become the distinctive spiritual feature of Zhongshan City. Overseas Zhongshanese also feel proud of the charity idea in their hometown. The charity atmosphere in Zhongshan has greatly promoted the Red Cross work in the city.

Xue pointed out that Zhongshan Municipal Party Committee and Zhongshan Municipal Government have been attaching great importance to the Red Cross work in Zhongshan. The 29-year Zhongshan Charity Parade further carries forward core socialist values, highlights the important role of the Red Cross in terms of social aid, promotes cultural recognition, and condenses the joint efforts of citizens in terms of hometown construction.

Xue emphasized that Zhongshan will take the chance of the meeting to further spread the Red Cross spirit and improve the work of the Red Cross in Zhongshan so as to make greater contribution to provincial and even national Red Cross work.
