“Jupai Cup” National Swimming Competition was held on April 5 to serve as a qualification contest for Rio de Janeiro Olympics. Zhongshan athlete Wang Xue-er won the gold by 59.82 seconds in women’s 100 backstroke.

In the competition yesterday Liu Xiang led the first half swimming and Wang Xue-er overtook her in the second half. Wang was satisfied with the result but she hoped to swimmer faster. “(the result) is a little slower than I expected but I’m satisfied with the progress,” Wang said. “I hope to attend the Olympics and strive for 1/8 finals.
