The semi-final of Folk Cantonese Opera Club Competition was held in the auditorium of the Cultural Center in Torch Zone on May 18th.

2016 Zhongshan Cantonese Opera Cultural Week, hosted by the Publicity Department of Zhongshan Party Committee and Zhongshan Culture, Radio, Television, Press and Publication Bureau, was launched on May 20th. It is learned that the activity lasts from May 20th to 28th and features five series of activities, such as famous troupes and celebrities performing for the grassroots, Cantonese opera on campus attached with cultural lectures and performances, folk Cantonese Opera Club Competition, “Citizen Stage” Cantonese Opera Rookie Show, etc. Lv Lizhu, deputy director of Zhongshan Culture, Radio, Television, Press and Publication Bureau, remarks that the content-rich cultural week would make the Cantonese opera art more down-to-earth and closer to modern life. She also said “I wish to promote the Cantonese opera tradition and popularize it among the young and middle-aged people, so that they would learn more about it.”
