In early September, the State Council announced the third batch of 80 national memorial facilities and historical sites cataloging the War of Resistance against Japan. Gu's Ancestral Hall, the former site of Headquarters of the Guangdong People's Anti-Japanese Guerrilla Pearl River Army, which is located at No.14 Binlang Mountain, Nanqiao Village in Zhongshan's Wuguishan District, was included.
Gu's Ancestral Hall has an Exhibition Hall themed "Zhongshan People's Fight Against Japan" all the year round. It shows the history of Zhongshan people fighting against Japanese aggression in forms of pictures and texts. It is a patriotism education base of Zhongshan and a Communist Party of China history education base of Guangdong Province.
Wuguishan Mountain was one of the main battlefields in southern China against Japanese troops. At present, there are many CPC revolutionary sites in the Wuguishan District, among which Gu's Ancestral Hall is the most renowned.
Nowadays, the protection and active utilization of CPC's heritage is primarily carried out by the Wuguishan District government, with Gu's Ancestral Hall and the Wuguishan Section of the Shiqi-Macao Ancient Road as the premier projects. This work serves to integrate the important ancient road cultures and CPC heritage sites nearby, to improve cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao in culture and creative industries, and to lead the development of eco-cultural tourism in the entire district.
