The parade co-organized by Municipal Culture Bureau and Municipal Administration Bureau to raise money for the elderly person in need on the 7th Day of the 1st Month of Chinese Lunar New Year in 1988 embarked on the long history of charity parade in Zhongshan. Every year from the Spring Festival to the Chinese Lantern Festival, people from all walks of life in Zhongshan will advocate Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s fraternity spirit, raise money for humanitarian aids and promote the social welfare undertakings. The theme of the parade varies each year, including offering assistances for the wounded and the dying, helping and supporting the poor, providing a better life for senior citizens and the disability. On that day, more than 10,000 persons gather together, and then they parade along a certain route and give cultural and artistic performances with local features along the road. It has also further promoted the cultural connotation through cultural ideology and provided a better opportunity for the development of local folk art.
