Xiaolan, a prosperous town in northern Zhongshan, has always been enjoying a reputation for its 700-year-long practice of chrysanthemum cultivation. As for the chrysanthemum show in Xiaolan, it also has a heritage of hundreds of years, beginning in Qing Dynasty (1736). Every 60 years, a grand chrysanthemum exhibition is held, which makes Xiaolan boast the “Town of Chrysanthemum” at harvest time. Since then, in autumn every year, the splendid chrysanthemum show is held along the major streets and in the parks. The chrysanthemum show even becomes the platform for people to share experience of planting and appreciating chrysanthemum. The show, featuring about 10, 000 pots of blossoming chrysanthemum, is unequaled by any ever made in this country and many celebrations like folk art performance, dragon dance and lion dance assures it one of Zhongshan’s top ten attractions beyond question. Thousands of visitors dressed up to gather at the ocean of flowers to experience the glamour of the cultural hometown of chrysanthemum.
