The 2017 lantern show will commence on Jan.25 in Sun Yatsen Memorial Park, Zimaling Park, Yixianhu Park and along Zhongshan Road and Tiyu Road, beginning a countdown to the Chinese Year of the Rooster.

The event highlights the Year of the Rooster with many rooster-themed lanterns. At the entrance is a giant lantern in the shape of a crowing rooster heralding the break of a day. In a bid to spread ZS’s traditional cultures, the parks and streets are studded with lanterns themed on the Charity Parade, dragon-boat race, Zhongshan Eye Ferris Wheel, and local food. This year’s lantern show goes green by recycling 1500 red lanterns and saving cost as much as possible.

The yearly show, free to the public, has become a cultural icon in the city.This year the event will last till Feb.14.
