"I am truly delighted to receive this special Mid-Autumn Festival gift!" Smiled and said Liu Shuai, one of the builders of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, or the ShenZhong Link, after receiving the mooncakes made by his colleagues.
On September 19, human resources and social security departments of Zhongshan and Shenzhen jointly organized the "Mooncake Reunion Journey" activity, which is part of the 2023 "Full Moon in the Greater Bay Area: Meeting in Xiangshan" campaign. Three Cantonese cuisine chefs were invited to teach the builders how to make mooncakes at the construction site of the bridge.
"It is a meaningful activity! The freshly-made mooncakes can be given to colleagues or sent to our family members," said Wu Binglin, a staff member of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge project who has not been home for the Mid-Autumn Festival for many years, adding that mooncakes not only hold the ceremonial significance of the traditional festival but also serve as a token to express the feeling of missing among family members.
When the staff delivered the mooncakes freshly made in the morning to different locations on the construction site of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, the faint roar of machines still echoed across the Lingdingyang waters. The bridge builders scurried back and forth in the scorching sun to carry out their work. They smiled happily upon receiving the mooncakes.
