According to the statistics, lamps made in Zhongshan and approved to export by the inspection and quarantine administration last year reached 48091 batches amounting to US $1.348 billion. The export hit a record high with the amount and value rose by 20% and 37%. Although achievements have been made in exploring new markets, the quality of the energy saving lamps exported to Africa and Latin America need further improvement.

Last year, electric light sources and lamps were mainly exported to Europe, America, the Middle East, and ASEAN, among which European Union was the largest market. The value of export reached US $325 million. The emerging markets grew rapidly with exports to African and Latin American markets rose by 107.8% and 78.6% respectively. The reviving Russian market rose by 72.3%. Among the exported lamps, LED products tripled, indicating the accelerating application of the LED technology in electric light sources and lamps. LED products reduced the demand for incandescent lamps and energy saving lamps.

Now Zhongshan has nearly 20 large scale lighting products enterprises, and each has annual export value of more than 100 million Yuan. Some of the enterprises entered the high level markets in Europe and America with their competitive products. As the largest lighting products production base in China, lighting enterprises in Zhongshan mainly produce traditional lighting products. The research and development of core technology and product creative design still need improvement in spite of the fact that many enterprises launched their LED products.
