The gross foreign trade of 2016 was RMB 223.77 billion yuan, 1.2% up over that of 2015. The exports was 176.34 billion yuan, 1.4% up; the imports was 47.43 billion yuan, 0.6% up. In the single month of December, Zhongshan reached its summit of the year at 30.58 billion yuan, exceeding 30 billion yuan for the first time of the year, achieving an year-on-year growth of 37.7%. It is mainly brought by the exports.
Generally, the international market is soft in 2016 and the domestic economy was still faced with big pressure with the evident rise of unstable factors. But Zhongshan managed to get out of the trade bust to a boom as the foreign trade policies began to take effect. Our trade partners are showing a trend of diversity, in which the trade growth with the EU, the ASEAN and Japan is stable while rapid growth is achieved with emerging economies such as Mexico and India.
