South District of Zhongshan was approved to build a national industrial base for elevators, which means the base is updated to a national level. The base in planning covers 5000 mu (1mu is equal to 1/15 hectare) of land with a total investment of 3.5 billion yuan. The first phase of the project including the industrial base of elevators and related facilities has already started with investment of 500 million yuan.

Companies of elevators and relevant parts are mainly located in the South District, and the gross value of those above-scale elevator companies in the South District covers about 85 percent of the total. So far, two World Top 500 companies, Thyssen and Mitsubishi and over 40 other companies in the line have been settled there. They help build an industrial chain and form an elevator cluster. Their products far reach Europe, America, East Asia, Middle East, South Africa, etc.

The output volume and value of elevators has kept a steady growth of over 20 percent. In 2009, the output value of elevator industry reached 3.6 billion yuan. This year, elevator industry in South District develops rapidly for a number of elevator companies are either set up or expanded. Therefore a gold time is coming for elevator industry in Zhongshan

In the future, elevator industry will keep in a growth of over 20 percent and the total output value of above-scale elevator companies will reach 11 billion yuan.
