At present, Special Industrial Base of Elevator in Southern District of Zhongshan has been approved to upgrade into a national-level base. The "State Torch Plan of Specialty Industrial Base of Elevator, Zhongshan" will be listed on November 1, 2010.

As the pillar industry in Southern District whose output value accounts for 40% of the gross agricultural output value, elevator industry is an important engine for promoting the economic development of the whole district. With Thyseen and Ryoden elevators as the driving force, a relatively sound industrial chain has been formed in Southern District. The average output value of elevator industry increases by over 20% annually. In 2009, the annual production of elevators hit over 10,000, creating an output value of 4.8 billion yuan, accounting for 35% of the total in South China. During the first 9 months this year, the elevator industry has realized an output value of 3.5 billion yuan, up by 26% over the same period last year.

The research level of elevators is rising along with the output. At present, there are 26 enterprises technological centers and project research centers, 1 doctoral flow station research base in Southern District Elevator Base, who undertake 4 “State Torch Plan" projects and 35 provincial and municipal scientific plan items successively. Many of their elevator technologies take the lead in the industry.
