An emergency drill for oil spill prevention on water was conducted on December 8 in the waters of Shenwan Waterway near Kaili Shipyard in Shenwan Town.
The emergency drill simulated a fuel leakage accident on a ship due to the misoperation of a crew member, which could lead to large-scale pollution of the Xijiang River. The Zhongshan Shenwan Shipyard Joint Defense Alliance, the first anti-pollution joint defense organization formed by shipyards on the west side of the Greater Bay Area, made its debut. After more than 20 minutes control efforts, the "leaking fuel" was effectively stopped.
The Zhongshan Shenwan Shipyard Joint Defense Alliance is jointly funded by 6 shipyards including the Zhongshan Branch of Jianglong Shipbuilding Co Ltd and Aulong Shipbuilding Co Ltd. Joint meetings and emergency drills will be held on a regular basis to enhance cooperation and readiness.
"This emergency drill can help to further enhance the understanding of emergency plan among the functional departments, shipyards, trash-removal companies and emergency personnel in Shenwan Town, so as to ensure that all kinds of resources can be mobilized in time in case of danger," said Gao Yang, director of the Shenwan Marine Department.
