The ground-breaking ceremony was held for the Zhongshan Institute of Advanced Cryogenic Technology located in Zhongshan Science and Technology Innovation Park in South District on the morning of June 21.

Large-scale advanced cryogenic refrigeration equipment is widely used in such areas as scientific apparatus, aerospace, hydrogen energy storage and transportation, helium resource extraction, and quantum computing. It serves great national strategic importance, but the core technologies have been restricted by western countries.

To break the international monopoly, the Zhongshan Institute of Advanced Cryogenic Technology, which specializes in the development of advanced cryogenic technologies and large-scale cryogenic refrigeration equipment, as well as in the transformation of related technologies, has been established. The Institute plans to develop large-scale world-class cryogenic refrigeration equipment above 10,000-watts and put it into use in early 2024. The Institute also aims to develop into a large-scale cryogenic refrigeration technology innovation base as well as an operation center for the liquid hydrogen and liquid helium industries.

Taking Zhongshan Institute of Advanced Cryogenic Technology and Zhongshan Photonics Science Center as the core and being supported by Zhongshan Industrial Technology Research Center, Zhongshan Science and Technology Innovation Park will be specialized in gather innovative resources and develop into a science park covering grand science installation, technology R&D, achievement transformation and industrialization and high-tech enterprise incubation.
