"We are the only winner from China in a global bid for upholstered furniture at Waldorf Astoria, a high-end hotel in Lusail, Qatar's new city," said Huang Qiaofen, sales director of Gainwell, a furniture maker in Zhongshan. "This is recognition of 'Made in China' and Zhongshan enterprises and it will boost Zhongshan's confidence in reaching new heights in development."
To host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar specially built a new city Lusail in the desert in addition to more than 100 high-end hotels. One of them is Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, a world renowned hotel brand owned by Hilton.
"We were able to form the partnership because of our continuous cooperation with Hilton for over six years. In addition to this, we benefited by a recommendation from a British procurement consultant, which directly reflects the hard power of our products," said Huang.
Responding to the Belt and Road Initiative, Gainwell has focused on opening up overseas markets in recent years. It has offered overall solutions for commercial furniture to its clients in the Middle East and Africa.
"For a major project in Saudi Arabia next year, we will provide upholstered furniture solutions for six-star hotel Six Senses. More efforts will be put in developing the Middle East market in the future," added Huang.
Seven years earlier, Gainwell set up a factory in Vietnam. At the same time, the company has been expanding its business to Hong Kong and Macao regions as well as Singapore, the US and Australia.
