Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Finance jointly released the 2023 list of proposed national strong agricultural towns. Zhongshan's Tanzhou Town made the list as one of the only nine selected in Guangdong.
With a solid agricultural foundation, Tanzhou is a major agricultural and sideline product base in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), as well as a key aquatic product supply base for Hong Kong and Macao. With seven non-staple food production bases in the GBA, Tanzhou exports over 35 tons of live fish a day, accounting for more than 30% of Zhongshan's total exports of live fish for Hong Kong and Macao.
Tanzhou is also known as "a land of fish and rice". In 2022, it achieved a total agricultural output value of 1.7 billion yuan, including 900 million yuan from fisheries, and its output of aquatic products exceeded 37,000 tons. With about 60,000 mu of farmland, including an aquaculture area of 32,000 mu, Tanzhou has created an agricultural industry pattern featuring aquaculture, fruits, vegetables, flowers and so on.
