"Cooling appliances", such as refrigerators, air conditioners and electric fans, all witness a surge in overseas orders in the scorching summer.
On July 22, at the Zhongshan freight terminal, a batch of some 2,400 air conditioners made by TCL Air Conditioner (Zhongshan) Co Ltd were waiting to be transported to Shenzhen's Shekou Container Terminal. And then, they will be exported to Brazil, South Africa and other regions worldwide.
Zhongshan has a most complete household appliance industry chain in the Greater Bay Area. As a well-known production base for home appliances in China, Zhongshan is home to such industry leaders as TCL, Changhong and Homa.
"Summer is the export season for refrigerators and air conditioners. This year, we increase investment in innovation, and our latest products made debut at major exhibitions such as the Canton Fair, resulting in a significant growth in orders from overseas markets," said Wu Chaojia, customs clearance chief of TCL Air Conditioner (Zhongshan) Co Ltd. "In the first half, the company saw a 28.6% growth in air conditioner export orders from a year earlier, and the number is expected to rise as the hot weather continues."
From January to June, Zhongshan's export value of household appliances totaled 32.19 billion yuan, up 26.4% from the previous year. The export value of "cooling appliances", including air conditioners, electric fans and refrigerators, rose 22.6% year-on-year to 17.58 billion yuan.
