To host the FIFA World Cup 2022, Qatar invested heavily in building Lusail, a city in the desert, and an artificial island named the Pearl-Qatar. Zhongshan-based company Huayi Lighting provided lighting solutions for commercial projects and urban infrastructure on the island, including four starred hotels and resorts, a high-tech industrial park, and a green logistics park.
On the Pearl-Qatar, Huayi Lighting designed a giant chandelier (about 7 meters in height and 4 meters in diameter) inspired by the shape of a seashell for Velero Hotel.
"We've built it as an icon that visitors from around the world can enjoy the sight of and learn about the amazing craftsmanship of Chinese lighting," said Su Shuxian, vice general manager of the international business department of Huayi Lighting.
Huayi also contributes overall lighting solutions to the 1,500,000-square-meter GWC Al Wukair Logistics Park and the landmark building Energy City Qatar (ECQ) in Lusail New City to boost the modernization and upgrading of Qatar.
Responding to the Belt and Road Initiative, Huayi Lighting continually promote its brands in overseas markets. For example, it has provided lighting solutions for the Samarkand Tourism Center in Uzbekistan.
Huayi Lighting has also participated in lighting projects of many high-end hotels in the Middle East and Central Asia.
In Africa, Huayi Lighting launches a pilot scheme to build independent lighting brands, aiming to develop strategic partners and market own-label product.
In recent years, Zhongshan's lighting industry, represented by Huayi Lighting and other enterprises, has shown tremendous technical strength and innovation capacity through the engagement in major projects.
