In the general plan of Zhongshan, Shaxi Town is devised as manufacturing base of branded clothes, a heaven of talented designers, an incubator of famous brands and a center of fashion information. During the process of the clothing industry transforming from a labor-intensive industry to a capital- and technology- intensive industry, Shaxi realized its transition from traditional manufacturing to fashion industry, and from casual wear manufacturing center to casual wear culture center.

In 2000 when the First Casual Wear Fair was held here, Shaxi began to focus all it production capacity on manufacturing casual wear. Since then, the production and development of casual wear in Shaxi took wings. By the end of 2010, there were 163 clothes enterprises above the designated size, 22 of them with output value surpassing 100 million yuan and 3 enterprises surpassing 500 million yuan. In that year, clothes industry realized a total output value of 17.229 billion yuan, increasing by 26.45% compared with that of 2009 and accounting for 76% of the total industrial output value in Shaxi. The output value of enterprises with the designated size was boosted by 44.38%to to 15.811 billion yuan. The Shaxi-made clothes were exported to more than 20 countries and regions, achieving a total export volume of 258 million yuan, 6.7% up.

Besides, Shaxi has increased its clothes brands from less than 100 in 2007 to more than 250 by now, one national famous brand and 8 provincial famous brands. Honors the clothes industry has won for Shaxi included Top 100 Industrial Cluster, The Most Influential Textile Capital, and Top 100 Manufacturing Base with Chinese Characteristics. Shaxi-made Casual Wear has become a well-known brand.
