Guo Wenhai, secretary of the CPC Zhongshan Municipal Committee, visited Shiqi District to investigate the planning and design of the Xiangshan Ancient City days before. He walked through Rongshutou, Longmumiao Street, Sun Wen Road and other old blocks, which used to be the busiest places in Shiqi District and even Zhongshan. But now, there are no longer any bustling crowds. Many houses along the streets are low, dilapidated, and long since out of repair, while other well-designed houses owned by overseas Chinese are left unattended all year round.

"The ancient Shiqi has always been a symbol of Zhongshan, but now it has been slowing down in development. Urban renewal will be a good way to make the ancient Shiqi Distirct a place with modern vigor." Guo said that accelerating the transformation of historical and cultural areas will improve city development and people's wellbeing.

Guo stressed that it is necessary to speed up the planning and construction of the Xiangshan Ancient City as well as the construction of Qijiang New Town, and pioneer the development of Shiqi District with three major projects to make it invigorated.

Guo Wenhai said that there are some difficulties in its current development, but Shiqi still has profound historical and cultural endowments and a solid economic foundation. It is necessary to stay confident and focus on the three major projects put forward to accelerate high-quality development.
