From January 1 to December 29, 2020, the proportion of days with good air quality in Zhongshan was 90.1%, more than 330 days, an increase of 11% year-on-year. Zhongshan's comprehensive air quality index ranked 4th in the Pearl River Delta, and 12th in Guangdong province. Its cumulative improvement rate ranked 4th in the whole province.

Since 2020, a total of 8 measures have been launched in Zhongshan to control air pollution, and 63,223 people have been dispatched to organize and implement air pollution solutions.

At present, Zhongshan has introduced 3 pilot programs for the automatic analysis and identification of smoke emission through using AI technology to strengthen inspections and law enforcement capabilities on farmland and bare land in key areas, and to prevent open burning of straw bales, garbage and other pollutants.
