The Ministry of Ecology and Environment on March 16 released the report on national water and air quality index for February 2021. In terms of air quality in February, Zhongshan ranked 9th out of 168 major cities nationwide.

Through the past year, most residents in Zhongshan thought that the sky got bluer and the air was fresher. According to data from the Zhongshan Bureau of Ecology and Environment, Zhongshan's PM2.5 improvement rate ranked 3rd and the ozone improvement rate ranked 2nd in Guangdong province in 2020. The annual statistical concentrations of PM2.5, PM10, NO2, SO2 and CO were at their lowest levels among the last 6 years.

Zhongshan saw excellent air quality in 211 days last year, the best number over the last 6 years. The proportion of days with good and excellent air quality in the whole year was 90.2%.
