Zhongshan remains at a good level in air quality so far this year. As of November 30, its air quality index ranked 13th among 168 major cities in China and 4th in the Pearl River Delta.
Among the six indicators, the concentrations of SO₂, NO₂, PM10, PM2.5 and O₃ were 4, 23, 37, 19 and 151 µg/m³ respectively, while that of CO was 0.8 mg/m³. All six indicators were up to national standards.
The Zhongshan Bureau of Ecology and Environment classifies local enterprises and related units into A (excellent), B (good) and C (poor) categories according to their daily management and emission level of air pollutants. A total of 114 major enterprises that produce VOCs, 519 industrial furnaces, and 545 boilers in Zhongshan have been classified through this management system.
In addition, the Zhongshan Bureau of Ecology and Environment establishes and manages Guangdong's first independent reporting system with rewards. Citizens now can easily report environmental violations through WeChat and official website of the bureau.
