During a field study in Zhongshan's Xiangshan Provincial Nature Reserve, two orchid varieties, calanthe speciosa and cleisostoma rostratum, were both discovered in Zhongshan for the first time.

Calanthe speciosa and cleisostoma rostratum are both listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), and their international trade must be controlled.
