On the morning of October 30 in Nanlang District, a bird photographer in Zhongshan found and photographed three goose-like birds foraging in a rice field. This was the first image record of white-fronted geese in Zhongshan.
White-fronted geese are national second-class protected animals. Their average length ranges from 64-80 cm and their weight from 2-3.5 kg. They mainly feed on plants, fly in flocks, and are migrant brids in winter.
An official from the Zhongshan Bureau of Natural Resources says that there are only four members of the anatidae family in the List of Wild Animals Found in Zhongshan. The white-fronted goose will be the first member of the anser genus in Zhongshan.
In recent years, Zhongshan has implemented a strict farmland protection system. There are large open rice fields along the coastal area in Nanlang District, which provide a foraging habitat for migratory birds moving south.
