The Zhongshan Bureau of Ecology and Environment released the Zhongshan Water Environment Quality Ranking Report for 2022 on January 9. Among Zhongshan's 23 towns and districts, Wuguishan, Minzhong and Shenwan were the top three in terms of water quality, and Guzhen, Nanlang and Dachong were the top three in terms of water quality improvement.

A total of 80 administrative villages in Zhongshan have started agricultural pollution treatment projects, with over 730 kilometers of rainwater and sewage pipes completed and over 130 kilometers of riser renovated. The city is going all out to make the rural domestic sewage treatment rate hit 95% by the end of 2025.

On January 4, the Department of Ecology and Environment of Guangdong Province announced the city rankings in terms of water environment quality for the January-November period in 2022. Zhongshan ranked fourth in water environment quality.
