"In the past, the weeds here were taller than people. Many snakes, insects, rats, and ants nested here, posing great health threats. Now these areas have been converted into parking lots. Not only is the environment much better, but also it is convenient for us to park," said Mr Ruan, a villager of Shengshi Village, Shaxi Town, on May 13.
In May this year, with the vigorous mobilization of the Shengshi Village Committee and the active cooperation of fellow villagers, more than 3,000 square meters of idle land were transformed into public temporary parking lots, which were provided free of charge to villagers, effectively relieving the parking problem.
Peng Yingqi, a cadre of village Party branch and village committee of Shengshi Village, said that after the May Day holiday, they started transforming idle land into four parking lots, three of which have been put into use and the remaining one is under construction.
Peng Yingqi said that most of the owners of these idle lands are overseas Chinese and villagers. "The owners of some land are departed villagers, while their descendants have long live abroad. They do not know much about the situation in their hometown, so they have some concerns when we contacted them." Peng Yingqi said that they spend a lot of time and efforts on persuading these descendants.
Fortunately, after the epidemic, the villagers' awareness of public environmental sanitation has been greatly improved. They not only contributed their own land for free use, but also actively funded the demolition work and raised infrastructure materials. With the great support of these warmhearted villagers, the reconstruction work went smoothly.
