From the newly-revealed result of 2013 performance evaluation of environmental protection in Guangdong Province, Zhongshan was graded as “excellent” with its score ranking No. 2. It was learned that Zhongshan has been listed as “excellent” in the evaluation for 7 years on a row since 2007. Other “excellent” cities include Zhuhai, Dongguan and Huizhou.

Taking the evaluation as an opportunity, Zhongshan municipal government has been beefing up efforts in aspects such as environmental management, environmental quality monitoring and pollution prevention and has scored notable achievements in sewage treatment, water remediation, implementing Clean Air Plan and reducing carbon emission. During these years, Zhongshan has been awarded honors like National Model City for Environmental Protection and Green City of the Nation.
