The Qijiang River valley covers an area of over 700 km2 in Zhongshan. Yesterday the municipal government put forward the Comprehensive Water Environment Improvement Plan for Qijiang River in Zhongshan (draft). According to the draft, the clearing away of silt and the rectification of banks of the 7.6 km river channel in the urban will be completed in October. By the end of 2015, the comprehensive improvement of all the major river valleys will be completed and the water quality will be fundamentally improved.
The municipal government plans to build or expand 8 sewage treatment works, 10 sewage pumping stations, and 646.57 km principal sewer networks, to improve and dredge 101 streams totaled 355.95 km. The plan also include the construction of water diversion and regulation sluice projects involving 3 major project scheduling, 51 inland waterway regulation sluices, and 2 water pumping stations.
According to the plan, during the Twelfth Five-Year plan period, a total investment of about 6.063 billion Yuan will be invested in the comprehensive water environment improvement of Qijiang River and its drainage areas.
