Xihe Pumping Station, a key livelihood project in Zhongshan, broke ground on May 23. With a total investment of 760 million yuan and an estimated construction period of 2.5 years, the project will be built into China's largest single pumping station with the functions of drainage, flood (tide) prevention and emergency irrigation.
The designed flood (tide) control standard of the station is once 200 years. For a once-in-20-years rainstorm, logged rainwater in the station can be drained in 24 hours.
The station is in the lower reaches of the west main dyke of Zhongshun Dawei, and at the intersection of the west exit of the Qijiang River and the Modaomen waterway of the Xijiang River, about 30 kilometers away from downtown Zhongshan.
The project includes pumping station engineering and auxiliary works, with a total installed capacity of 18,400 kilowatts, a drainage volume of 400 cubic metres per second, and a pumping irrigation volume of 145 cubic metres per second.
